Driftless Spore, LLC: Truffle Farming

July-September, 2019

Renown for their exquisite funk, truffles are one of the most expensive food items in the world, in part because they are so difficult to cultivate. Consulting with Driftless Spore, LLC in Crawford County, Wisconsin, I explored the possibility of applying to the USDA Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program to conduct research on innovative truffle cultivation technologies. In addition to grant preparation, I developed a white paper on truffle biology and the unique challenges of truffle cultivation in this region.
